Legal Counsel

We are currently recruiting a Legal Counsel (m/f/x), to enforce our legal department. This person will be based in Antwerp as part of our Central Services team.

The Central Services team is located in Antwerp (Belgium), Bussum (the Netherlands), Hamburg (Germany) and London (the United Kingdom), and consists of approximately 45 specialists who are responsible for the legal, reporting, accounting, tax, investor relations, HR and information management functions of Waterland.

What will be your impact?

The Legal Counsel will:

  • Provide legal support to Waterland team members in Belgium and France (including in relation to M&A, legal structuring, corporate governance, compliance and labour law matters).
  • Draft, review and benchmark transaction documentation (SPA, SHA, NDA, etc.)
  • Manage relationships with legal advisors.
  • Evaluate and advice on business decisions and operations from a fund and (regulated) fund manager perspective.
  • Monitor compliance with group policies, and laws and regulations (including AML/KYC, and anti-bribery and corruption).
  • Act as portfolio liaison: information sharing and sounding board towards management of portfolio companies with regard to legal topics.
  • Assist with portfolio management on legal matters.

Be your true self

We are seeking candidates (m/f/x) who can meet the following requirements:

  • minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in a legal role in a business environment, including a business law firm.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law (including M&A)
  • Comprehension of the regulatory framework of private equity would be an asset.
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Sound judgement and ability to analyse situations and information.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • A native or fluent French or Dutch speaker with excellent proficiency in English.
  • Master’s degree in law (additional education abroad and/or advanced master’s in Corporate/Business Law is a plus).
